“How much does a nursing home cost?” has no single answer — fees vary widely by region, care level and room type. This guide explains what drives the price so you can budget realistically and compare centres fairly.

What drives the monthly fee

• Care level — basic assisted living costs far less than skilled nursing, tube-feeding, or dementia care with 24-hour supervision.
• Location — the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Bahru typically cost more than smaller towns.
• Room type — a shared dormitory bed is the most affordable; a private, air-conditioned room costs considerably more.
• Staffing ratio — homes with more nurses and carers per resident charge more, and usually deliver better care.

Indicative ranges

As a rough guide, monthly residential fees in Malaysia commonly span a wide band depending on the factors above — from more affordable shared-room assisted living to premium private nursing care that can cost several times more. Klang Valley and other urban centres sit at the higher end. These are indicative only. Because prices change and vary enormously between centres, we do not quote figures for individual homes — always ask the operator for a current, written fee schedule.

The extras families forget to budget for

Base fees rarely include everything. Ask specifically about:

• Medication and medical supplies
• Doctor visits, physiotherapy and specialist reviews

How to compare fairly
